Plot Summary
The episode begins with Raylan and Winona Hawkins (Natalie Zea), his ex-wife who is now his lover, having breakfast at a diner. Raylan gets a call from Art Mullen (Nick Searcy), his boss at the Marshal's office, who informs him that a man named Arnold Pinter (David Eigenberg) has been shot dead in his office. Pinter was a bookie who had connections to both the Bennetts and the Crowders, and Raylan had met him before when he was investigating Boyd's involvement in a bank robbery.
Raylan goes to the crime scene and learns that Pinter was killed by a sniper who shot him through the window. He also finds out that Pinter had a ledger with names and numbers of his clients, which is missing. Raylan suspects that someone wanted to get their hands on the ledger, either to protect themselves or to blackmail others. He interviews Pinter's assistant, Carol Johnson (Rebecca Creskoff), who claims that she doesn't know anything about the ledger or the killer.
Meanwhile, Boyd meets with his new partners, Devil (Kevin Rankin) and Arlo Givens (Raymond J. Barry), Raylan's estranged father who is also a criminal. They plan to rob a mine payroll truck that belongs to Black Pike Coal Company, a corporation that is trying to buy out the land of the locals, including the Bennetts. Boyd tells them that he has an inside man who works at the mine and will give them the details of the truck's route and schedule.
At the same time, Mags Bennett (Margo Martindale), the matriarch of the Bennett clan and a marijuana dealer, meets with Carol Johnson, who is actually her daughter-in-law. Carol tells Mags that Pinter is dead and that she has his ledger, which contains information about Mags' business and customers. She asks Mags for money in exchange for the ledger, but Mags refuses and threatens to kill her if she doesn't hand it over.
Raylan tracks down Pinter's killer, who turns out to be Gary Hawkins (William Ragsdale), Winona's current husband who is in debt to Pinter. Gary confesses that he hired a hitman named Nick Mooney (Michael Mosley) to kill Pinter and get the ledger, hoping to use it to pay off his debt and get rid of Winona. Raylan arrests Gary and Mooney and takes them to the Marshal's office.
Boyd and his crew carry out their heist, but it goes wrong when they discover that their inside man has betrayed them and alerted the security guards. A shootout ensues, and Boyd manages to escape with some of the money, but Devil is wounded and Arlo is captured by the guards.
Raylan visits Mags at her store and confronts her about Pinter's ledger. He tells her that he knows that she was behind Pinter's murder and that Carol has the ledger. He warns her that he will bring her down if she doesn't stop her illegal activities. Mags denies any involvement and tells Raylan to leave her alone.
The episode ends with Raylan returning to Winona's house, where he finds her packing her bags. She tells him that she is leaving c481cea774
